Reviews

Great lyrics, beautiful music, beautifully sung.
— Petroc Trelawny, BBC Radio 3 In Tune Presenter
It’s refreshing to hear a vocalist write and perform a set reflective of the beauty and heartfelt nature of the Great American Songbook. There is a phrase at the end of “It’s Only Spring” that summarises how I feel about Lux — “Am I growing fonder of you?” After listening to Seasons in Jazz, you’ll grow fonder of Lux as well.
— Abe Goldstien, Cadence Magazine
Her voice is by turns pellucid, sensuous, sultry and soulful and she certainly knows how to swing.
— Robert Ryan, Camden New Journal
Seasons in Jazz is an ambitious and lovingly crafted album, and this live debut showcased its strengths with poise and heart. Lux proves herself not just a gifted vocalist, but a composer with a genuine feel for classic song form—a rare and welcome voice in the modern jazz landscape.

Sandra-Mae Lux captures vibe of Patti Austin-Quincy Jones era
— Justin Kantor, SoulTracks
While only time will tell if any of these songs become classics, there’s no doubt that all of them are smartly crafted contenders. And as a singer, Sandra-Mae has a voice of arresting purity and warmth, ideally suited to express the wit of these lyrics.
— Andrew Cartmel, UK Jazz news, Dr. Who
Wow, that’s magic. These are proper songs.
— Nigel Williams, Jazz FM Presenter
This is a very beautiful album that looks to the past for inspiration without allowing nostalgia to take over. In doing so Lux and Marriott have demonstrated how the art the songwriting from the Great American is not passe and can be used to create some exquisite songs that are as current as anything else you are likely to hear. Highly recommended.
— Nick Lea, Jazz Views
Woah, what a voice. I could listen to that on loop all morning.
— Tom McKinney, BBC Radio 3 Breakfast Show Presenter
It’s fairly difficult not to be drawn in by the colourful and decorative artwork for the new album by singer and saxophonist Sandra-Mae Lux, and it just so happens that, on this occasion, an impressive album cover matches a very impressive album.
— Maddy Allison, Presto Music
[I’m Still Here] is such a sweet tune
— Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio 6
Lux is clearly an artist with flash and flair
— Stuart Derdeyn, The Vancouver Sun
It’s really not fair. Sandra-Mae has a voice with the purity of a singing angel that can suddenly change into the grating of a chain-smoking whisky-drinker; she plays the sax like a good old boy; she directs her band with calm aplomb; she has the charm of a Hollywood star and stage presence of an old trooper; and she looks like a million dollars. One of two of these gifts would be fine. But having them all seems to me a tad greedy. But it all makes for a star who I’m sure will get even brighter.
— Chris Proctor, Journalist & Author (The Guardian)
Perfect summer song, beautifully sung & produced.

Superb. Sandra-Mae Lux is definitely an artist you’re going to hear lots more of
— Paul Lewis, JFSR Radio
Funky rhythms, buoyant and percolating with effervescent colors. Sandra-Mae’s luscious voice infuses the lyrics with smoldering, smoky flavors rife with visceral sensual textures backed by glowing harmonies. Wonderfully wrought
