Music Sync for Film & TV

"Summer’s Coming Again” was placed in The Testaments

It all started when…

I sort of, accidentally-but-not-really-accidentally wrote and recorded a classic jazz album with my lyricist writing partner Alan Marriott. I soon realized that the songs on “Seasons in Jazz” instantly lent themselves to many music spots in film and television! Think classy dinners, restaurants, jazz clubs, art gallery events, hotel bars, galas, cafes, emotional scenes for the lead…the list is almost endless!

After making some meaningful relationships with music supervisors in LA, they really got excited about these songs. Since then, I’ve so far had 3 placements, with more in the works.

Stay tuned (pun intended)!

“Love Me Tonight” was featured on Outer Banks

What Is Sync?

Music synchronization refers to synchronizing music to moving pictures; be it film, television, commercials, and/or video games.

Music supervisors are hired by the production company usually on a project-by-project basis to guide the direction and feel of a soundtrack that reflects the vibe of the film/TV show or commercial. They then source options and present these to the directors/producers of the show and complete the ensuing paperwork to make sure all is good to go!

Music supervisors have to contact the publisher(s) and owner of the master recording of a song to legally place a song in film and TV.

“Perfect Weather” (the sax version) was placed in Vladimir.

What is a Music Supervisor?

A music supervisor oversees all music-related aspects in film, television, commercials and video games.
They creatively curate the music as well as log cue sheets, administration, budget management, licensing and legal clearance.

A music supervisor can really set the tone for a show (literally!) and are an integral part of creating the end product. They guide the viewer on how to feel in a scene. Can you image a film or TV show without any music? It would be pretty empty and dull!
